Why were The Beatles so popular?
The Beatles recorded their first hit in September 1962. It was called Love Me Do and it instantly entered the British music charts, where it took first place. The main reason for the popularity was that The Beatles appeared at the right time and created a new rock and a new era.
The group’s performance in October 1963 at the London Palladium made them famous throughout the UK. The show was broadcast live and watched by around 12 million viewers. This stunning success marked the beginning of Beatlemania. At the peak of their popularity, The Beatles’ songs were played twenty hours a day and fans knew all of them by heart. In honor of musicians, the International Astronomical Union even named four asteroids: Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr. Although The Beatles are long gone, it seems that Beatlemania will never disappear. Even today, the popularity of the Liverpool band is still very high.
The Beatles in Dallas

The Beatles visited Dallas with a concert only once. The band arrived on September 18, 1964. They stayed at the Cabana Motor Hotel, where a crowd of fans quickly gathered. As a result, people even broke the glass doors of the hotel.
Before the performance, The Beatles held their usual press conference, which was the last in the tour. The band members sat in cowboy hats, which they put on for comedic effect. Then, they had fun with these hats in the dressing room.

During the conference, they shared their impressions of the Texas city, talked about girls and Ringo Starr’s personal life. The musicians said that Dallas is a really great city, even though George Harrison was punched in the face several times while walking from his car to the hotel. The singer noted that this did not spoil his impression of Dallas at all, since it is part of the life of public figures, although not very pleasant.
The concert in Dallas
The concert was held in the Memorial Auditorium, where the stage was three times higher compared to those where the band used to play. Bill Black’s Combo, The Exciters, Clarence Henry and Jackie DeShannon also performed there on the same day. Before the start of the concert, the police received a call informing them that the hall had been mined. The start of the performance was delayed due to a security check at the venue. The search did not find any bombs or other explosive devices. Instead, fans were found hiding under the stage, backstage and in the restrooms.
That day, 10,000 fans came to see their idols. All the tickets were sold out in one day. The concert lasted 30 minutes and consisted of twelve songs: Twist And Shout, You Can’t Do That, All My Loving, She Loves You, Things We Said Today, Roll Over Beethoven, Can’t Buy Me Love, If I Fell, I Want To Hold Your Hand, Boys, A Hard Day’s Night and Long Tall Sally. After the performance, The Beatles went to Dallas Love Field Public Airport. The band spent the next weekend at Reed Pigman’s ranch in Missouri. Here musicians rode horses, ate homemade food and rested, enjoying friendly hospitality and a rural atmosphere.
